Indian Fast Food - Gloucester Road

Mus uni non fidit antro. The mouse does not rely upon just one hole.

And so we embark upon out curryous journey through the warrens of Bristol's Indian indulgences.

Our first foray witnessed our footsteps alighting upon the doormat of a curry house apltly named... Indian Fast Food.

High hopes we had not, but our curiosities were piqued by Patrick's inquisitive investigations into online reviews.

Upon stepping over the hearth the welcoming we received was warm and the smiles genuine throughout the course of our stay.

Immediate impressions of ambience were that of a clean, wholesome, dining restaurant utterly prepared for the casual diner.

However, lay yon eyes upon the surroundings for a few moments longer and one may begin to tune in to the signs of a curry house willing to embrace a deeper level of inebriated clientele.

Tile flooring. Red plastic seating. Laminated table tops. Not a carpet nor wooden surface in sight. This place was braced for the late night storm of the twatted Gloucester Roadian pub crawl punter.

BYOB, tick, and we were off to a good start.

A generous serving of 4 poppadoms sufficed for three hungry hippos and when a spluttered last minute request for mango chutney was uttered, the response was a reassuring confirmation that it would, of course, be included as standard.

In the spirit of openness and curryosity, we ventured into pastures new for our main course. However, our newfound levels of curryousness was shown to be but a bluff as we all ordered the same fish dish.

The age old debate, stretching back to the first chilli itself, ensued - how many rice and how many naans would be needed for a gathering of Three Muskpaneers? Two rice? Three naan? Alas, any conclusion we agreed upon has been drowned in the annals of time by a healthy dosage of IPA and red wine, with the debate destined to continue in perpetuity.

As we wolfed down our feast and discussed the merits of Voltaire and Hemmingway, it occurred to me that the darkening sky stood in stark juxtaposition to the brightening glow in my belly.

What a thoroughly joyous start the evening had been to what is destined to be an incredibly curryous adventure...
